Upgrading the database fails with a message that a music file could not be opened
The problem happens because the upgrade of the database checks all mp3 files to se if the file contains any genre information saved in an ID3v1 tag. The problem occurs if the ID3v1 setting “Write changes in the database to the ID3v1 tag in mp3 files” is activated in Music Archive. The problem happens because the software after reading the genre information tries to write the change in the genre information in the database to the mp3 file. If the file is set as read-only the software display a message about the files could not be opened. After the user clicks Ok the software den shows the main software window, but without havening loaded the database and the system settings and the splash screen is also not closed. The only option to the user is to close the software by brute force, because the splash screen blocks the software in being close normally.

The problem can be fixed by disabling the write changes setting. The setting can be changed in the windows registry. To make this as simple as possible for users of the software we have made a registry file that can be downloaded from here, that disables the write changes setting. After the file is downloaded just run the file and follow the information on the screen.
The write changes setting can be activated by the user again when the upgrade is completed, from within the settings window in Music Archive. The setting only makes a problem when upgrading a Music Archive database.
