January 18, 2005 - Release of File Renamer 2.0

File Renamer has in the last few months gone through a major reversion. The reversion has been focused on three things: More options to modify filenames, an updated user interface and better possibilities of keeping an eye on the result of the rename.

The possibilities of modifying filenames have been greatly expanded. It has become easier to insert new text parts into the filenames, it is possible to remove characters in the middle of the filename and it is possible to change the filenames to upper and lower case characters. The last feature has been a important part of File Renamer 2.0, because the feature have been requested from several users. Beside these new possibilities a number of old options has been expanded. It is now possible to replace several different texts parts in the same rename process, there is better user control of removal of extra spaces and it is now possible to use text parts instead of single characters in the separation of logical name blocks.

The user interface has also been through a larger change. The rename options have been grouped in tabs to be easier to overlook. This should compensate for the new rename options so it still is possible to manage how filenames are constructed. The tabs should also make it easier to see which options that are used first in the construction and thereby make it easier to get the right filenames out of File Renamer.

Besides the grouping a scheme system has also been introduced. This system can save schemes of all rename options. Rename options can then quickly be changed by selecting between the schemes. The system makes it possible to have a number of schemes with different settings that are customized to what kind of files that is being renamed.

The last thing that should be mentioned is that the file list also has been improved. The list is now sorted and it is possible to get the new filenames shown in the list.

In total this is just a brief walkthrough some of the things that has happened. File Renamer has been improved on all fronts and a complete walkthrough would be a long story but it can only be recommended to upgrade to File Renamer 2.0. There are lots of new features to explore.
