With PublicWare back on its own server, it's finally time to look at software development again. The first thing is an overhaul of File Renamer. In the next release there is focus on three things: more options to modify filenames, an updated user interface and better possibilities of keeping an eye on the result of the rename. Among the new possibilities of modifying filenames the character case option should first be mentioned. This option has been requested from several users, and the function was therefore the first thing to be developed for the next release. The function is built on the basics of a similar system in Music Arvhive. It therefore becomes possible to change all the characters to lowercase, uppercase or to make the first character uppercase and the rest in lowercase. Other rename options that should be mentioned are removal of double spaces, insertion of characters in front, in the back or in the middle of the filename and also the possibility of replacing more than one text string in one rename process. On the user interface side that upcoming release will group the rename options together on tabs. This makes room to all the new options and also helps to create a better overview. Already in version 1.10 the rename option window was getting messy and hopefully the tabs will help to solve that problem. The tabs will also be arranged so it becomes more clear in what order the rename options is used in the rename process. To help keep an eye on the result of the rename, the software will feature better possibilities of managing the file list. It will be possible to see how all the files are renamed, and the plan is also to make it possible to sort the file list. In total the next release will be a large update. That is why the next release will also be named version 2.0. When the software is release have not been planed, but it is expected in less than a month. |
