PublicWare news

October 14, 2004 - PublicWare moved to new server

After 11 weeks on a temporary server the PublicWare website was finally moved on September 26th to a new home. The 11 weeks have been used to get a new server, configure and test it, so it was ready to permanent operation. The email system was the first to be moved to the server, after the server had been in test operation for a week. One week later it was the web systems turn to be moved. The entire move process went without problems, and after 2 weeks the server is still running flawless.

In comparison to the old server, that got stolen, the new have several advantages. It has better data security, uses less power and is also a bit more powerful. That data security has been improved does that the server now better can handle hardware failure and loss of power. Hopefully this will result in better uptime and thereby fewer and shorter website brake downs. That the server uses less power should make it is cheaper to operate. The smallest advantage is that the server is a bit more powerful. The old server had no problems with performance and thereby the extra capacity does not give any big advantages. But it will however make the server more tolerant if the server should get pressured.

Beside the new server advantages the server is also better physically protected against break-ins. The safety procedures on data management have also been revised so data loss is limited to a minimum. The new initiative will hopefully prevent PublicWare from getting in the same situation as when the old server disappeared.

With the new server PublicWare is back at full steam and software development is therefore back on track.
